DANBURY, Conn. (December 18, 2023) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) uncovered its 2023 Division I FCS All-ECAC Team and Major Awards where Howard University senior defensive back Kenny Gallop, Jr. (Portsmouth, Va.) earned a spot for the second consecutive year. The announcement came Monday morning.
Gallop, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Year, made the All-ECAC Defensive Team after a stellar senior season.
Throughout the week, Gallop has received several awards, including All-American honors from BOXTOROW, FCS Football Central and Phil Steele. Recently, he won the 2023 Aeneas Williams Award, given to the top defensive back in HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Division I college football based on performance on the field, athletic ability and character.
In the regular season, the Buck Buchanan Award finalist produced 65 total tackles (42 solos) with six tackles for loss, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two quarterback hurries. In the homecoming victory over Norfolk State (Oct. 21), Gallop recorded a season-high 11 total tackles and the game-clinching interception. For his efforts, he was named FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
New Hampshire quarterback Max Brosmer won ECAC Offensive Player of the Year while Dylan Kelly from Albany was named Defensive Player of the Year. Albany running back Griffin Woodell earned Offensive Rookie of the Year and Carter Glassmyer from Saint Francis University took home Defensive Rookie of the Year. Greg Gattuso from Albany garnered Coach of the Year.
Howard finished the 2023 campaign 6-6 (4-1 MEAC), winning back-to-back MEAC titles and earning its first-ever berth to the Cricket Celebration Bowl.
